Who:
David Ulevitch
Start Date:
June 2001 and still going rock solid
Why:
DNS is often compared to the analog equivalent of the White
Pages. If this is the case, why do people pay for DNS hosting when their
phone number is listed in the white pages for free? We feel that
DNS should be free for both listings and lookups, not simply the
latter.
How: Our
backend is based on Dan Bernstein's fantastic tinydns DNS server.
Utilizing mysql and perl we are able to control the tinydns hash
tables to quickly generate data files. On the frontend we are using
a combination of mysql and php to make a (hopefully) easy to use
web-based DNS administration system.
Goal: Our
goal for this project is to have a DNS service for the internet
that is a) easy to use and b) free and c) 100% reliable.
Where to
go from here:
In the future we will be rolling out more services and features
depending on what users want. To be absolutely clear however, our
core DNS service will always be free.
